One of my favorite parts of being an Arizona wedding photographer is being able to capture first looks. Today I am excited to share some of my favorite shots from Katherine and Devan’s first look at Usery Mountain Park. I love Katherine’s dress so much, and the two of them are such a sweet couple ❤️

What is a “First Look?”
A first look refers to the first time a couple gets to see each other in their wedding attire. Some couples prefer to have their first look on their wedding day, just before the ceremony. Others may prefer to not have a first look at all as they like the idea of not seeing each other until the bride is walking down the aisle.
I am always so excited to capture a first look since it can be a very intimate and special experience! I understand why some couples choose to forgo the first look but always encourage them to strongly consider it! I’m always happy, too, when my couples opt to have a separate portrait session for their first look.
Why a “First Look” Portrait Session?
I am a huge fan of capturing my couples in their wedding attire on a separate day from their wedding day. Here are some reasons why:
- More time to capture your love! Also, you’ve invested in that dress…so let’s get some amazing shots (Your wedding day will be hectic, trust me)
- Better lighting (if we do portraits on your wedding day, we are pretty much stuck with whatever time slot you have open for portraits of you)
- A beautiful location that YOU get to choose!
- Less stress!
- Opportunity to shoot in the AM hours (which let’s be honest, those morning hours are muuuuch better 75% of the year in Phoenix!)
- More time to focus on getting other shots at your wedding: details, family, wedding party, etc.
