One of my favorite places to take family pictures as an Arizona photographer is at the Gilbert Riparian. The Gilbert Riparian (its official name being the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch) offers a variety of backdrops for my clients. In many ways, it offers the best of many worlds! Not only are there beautiful paths lined with trees, but the Riparian also has water ponds, streams of water, saguaros, and all sorts of desert plants. It is an absolutely beautiful location with a super convenient location.
I love shooting here year round, especially in the hot months when a little shade is very much appreciated! While it has beautiful scenery year round, I will warn my clients that it does get very busy in the fall months with other photographers. For that reason, I would suggest only shooting here during weekdays in the fall.
Gilbert Riparian Family Pictures
I was very excited when Stephanie reached out to me and asked me to capture her family pictures at the Gilbert Riparian. They had recently moved back to Arizona from Michigan after her husband had finished his residency. The Caywood family was simply a dream to work with and I felt like we were instant friends.
We started out our session down one of the tree lined paths and slowly made our way to the saguaro patch at the front of the Riparian. During my family sessions I always make sure to capture the classic shots first. I know my families have hired me to document them at this particular moment in time and want to make sure to grab some of those everyone-looking-at-the-camera poses first. From there I usually give some prompts/games to guide the family through more candid shots. I won’t lie, those candid shots are always some of my favorites.
As you will now be able to tell, the Caywood family was seriously so much fun to work with! I am so glad they made the move back to Arizona and that we got to meet.
