Today I am excited to share the best poses and prompts for engagement and couple photos! Knowing which are the best prompts and poses to use as a engagement photographer is something that will come with a lot of trial and error, so today I am excited to share some of my go-to’s! While I love poses, they can can sometimes seem somewhat static and so in this blog post I’ll mostly be focusing on prompts I love to give to my couples!

Working with couples is one of my most favorite thing. I absolutely LOVE being able to talk with them and get to know them! It’s so fun to figure out their personalities, hear about their love stories, and capture their love! I also love how flexible working with adults can be (as opposed to working with kids 😅) and the amount of different prompts I can give them! While I do pose my clients, I also love to give prompts to elicit natural responses and candid moments.

I hope that these are helpful to you! Before we jump in too far, let me just say: If you’re looking for a couples/engagement photographer, I am your girl! Hit the “Contact” tab at the top of my website to send me an inquiry and we’ll get you scheduled!

Using Prompts in Photography

Being photographed makes many people super nervous, but I bet you knew that before I even told you! One of the reasons we get so nervous is because we start getting too much in our heads and worry about what we look like- and that’s why I think using prompts are the best! Prompts usually ask the couple- or one of them- to do something. That usually leads to capturing more movement, thus creating more interesting and dynamic photos. It also helps the couple being photographed focus more on what they’re doing rather than worrying about that camera being shoved in their faces! You’ll notice that by using prompts your couples will become more relaxed and you’ll capture their true personalities and love better than moving from one stand here, look here pose!

My Favorite Poses and Prompts for Couples and Engagement Photos

“Walk, holding hands, bumping hips, and laugh at each other!”

“Put your arm around her shoulder, hold hands, walk…then kiss and snuggle!”

“Put her on your shoulders and bounce her up and down!”

“Snuggle from behind him, now foreheads together, now hold her chin and kiss!”

“Pick her up like a sack of potatoes and try to get her dizzy!”

“Give her a piggyback ride…then kiss the crap outta his face!”

Pretzel your arms together, snuggle, then look at me!”

And of course, make sure to get some more of those classic shots, too!

I hope you can try some of these in your next couples session! They are so fun!

xoxo
