If you’ve ever been nervous before getting your photo taken, you are definitely not alone! I think that most people are somewhat nervous to be on the end of a camera lens, especially if you don’t know the photographer personally or haven’t interacted with them before. As your photographer, I see it as my role to let you know what to expect during our session! Nobody likes to show up to anything (especially the dentist 😅) not knowing what is going to happen! Here are a few things you can expect when booking a session with me!
You will receive a session guide once you have booked! Once your deposit or payment has been secured I will send an email with details regarding how to prepare for our session. This includes how to choose your outfits, shoes, and how to make sure the overall color palette goes well together! This is one of my favorite tools I give my clients and feel it is of great value! You will show up feeling confident and absolutely amazing in what you’ve chosen to wear.
You will also receive a location guide once you have booked! One of the hardest things to do when booking a portrait session is to decide on which backdrop you’d like. It’s my job as your photographer to provide you with a variety of locations. My location guide is full of plenty of options, including pictures of past sessions to help you see what it would be like to have your photos done there. If you have a location in mind that isn’t on my session guide I am always up for new adventures!
Classic poses before the silly/candid ones. When starting your session or moving to a new spot, I will always make sure to get some straight on, smiling, photos first. This way we can guarantee we’ve got the shots we need for Christmas cards or Grandma’s gift! Then we will move to having fun and capturing those candid moments of laughter and tenderness. Your gallery will be full of both kinds of images!
A mixture of shots. Once we get the group shot (for families) I will move on to do individual portraits of each member of the family. I always make an effort to grab a few different shots of mom and dad! These portraits will be both classic (smiling, looking at the camera) as well as candid. I will then follow your lead and capture siblings or groupings (dad+boys, girls+mom) as you’d like. This is your time and I want to make sure we get all the different shots you’d like!
A variety of poses. We’ve all been the one in front of a camera, feeling awkward…do I move my arm here or there? Does this look weird? What do I do with my feet? So that’s why I’ve done my homework and will come prepared with many different poses. I have worked hard to learn different flattering poses for various body types and will do my best to pose you in the most flattering way (although I think you’re amazing just how you are!) With couples and families I’ll have plenty of different prompts to get those perfect connection photos that every mama loves 😍
Beyond these 5 things, you can also expect me to be your hype girl. I will make things light and fun while creating beautiful portraits for you to hold on to forever. I always make it a priority to make my clients feel amazing and comfortable during our sessions. Your experience is my #1 priority!
